Upcoming Classes and Events

Our popular tasting classes offer an opportunity to experience an exquisite selection of our products and recipes. Our mongers choose cheeses that are tasting best at the time and pair them with wine, beer and classic, sometimes surprising, accompaniments. We conduct a short tour of our cheese cave at the end of classes held at our Cambridge location.

Please note: All classes must now be paid for in advance. To purchase a spot, select the class you are interested in from the list below and register online, or call 617-354-4750. Please have your credit card number ready. We do not currently accept gift certificates for classes. If you have any questions, please call 617-354-4750 or email classes@formaggiokitchen.com. Lastly, please make note of our cancellation policy.

Your New Year’s Resolution: To sip delicious, sustainably-produced wines, to taste exquisite farmhouse cheeses, and to savor artisan chocolates from around the world.

Join Formaggio Kitchen as we get back to basics with some of our favorite products during a special set of three classes (one each in January, February and March). Register for all three classes for a total of $90, or buy individual classes for $35 each. (Hint: This makes a great holiday gift!) All classes will begin at 5:30 p.m. Please note our cancellation policy for class packages below.

Sunday, January 11: Introduction to Biodynamic and Organic Wines. Sustainably-produced wines are Formaggio Kitchen’s specialty, but what exactly makes these wines unique? Come learn about the challenges of organic and biodynamic wine production, in the context of conventionally-produced wines, and how these wines are true expressions of terroir. We will taste several wines paired with cheeses and condiments.

Sunday, February 8: Cheese 101. (THIS SESSION SOLD OUT! SECOND SESSION ADDED APRIL 5, SEE BELOW)

Sunday, March 1: Chocolate, From Bean-to-Bar. Artisan chocolatiers oversee the entire process of chocolate-making -- from sourcing cocoa beans to molding bars – which results in amazing chocolate that reflects the cocoa’s unique characteristics. We will talk about how chocolate is made, and sample several domestic and foreign chocolates alongside our favorite wines and beers.

Sunday, April 5: Cheese 101. It’s time to broaden your knowledge of one of our favorite subjects. We will talk about the history and process of cheesemaking, and how our favorite modern-day cheesemakers (many of whom we have visited) are embracing artisan traditions. Learn the basics of tasting and building your own cheese plate, and sample a few wines and beers for good measure.

Also in 2009:

Sunday, January 25, 5:30 pm: Pizza e Vino! $35 per person. (SOLD OUT! PLEASE CALL TO BE PUT ON THE WAITING LIST!)

Join cheesemonger, wine buyer and expert pizza maker David Seaton for a lively night of homemade pizza and wine. David will use Mulino Marino flour -- a Formaggio Kitchen favorite from the Piedmont region of Italy -- to craft his own unique pizzas. He will share ideas for making your own pizza at home, and discuss the delicious wines that accompany the meal. The perfect pick-me-up for a mid-winter night.

Sunday, February 22, 5:30 pm: BBQ, cheese and beer, $35 per person.

We know it's still technically winter, but we're sure you'll love this chance to preview our popular summer barbecue menu! Sample our favorite grilled meats, expertly prepared by our in-house grillmasters, alongside specially chosen cheeses and beers. Enough said.
